In the Las Vegas Valley, both regular chlorine pools and saltwater pools exist and PoolStar cleans and maintains both types. The main difference between a regular pool and a salt-water pool is the method used to sanitize the water. Regular pools use chlorine, while saltwater pools use a salt chlorine generator, called a salt cell, to produce chlorine. Chlorine pools – Chlorine is added to water manually in the form of liquid, granular or tablets. Saltwater pools – Salt is added to the water and the salt cell system converts it to chlorine. Here’s why so many pool owners are making the switch to this innovative and eco-friendly system.
Unlike traditional chlorine pools, salt water systems use a salt chlorination generator to naturally produce chlorine from dissolved salt. This means you get clean, sanitized water without the hassle of handling harsh chemicals. At PoolStar, we specialize in systems that are efficient, long-lasting, and tailored to your pool’s specific needs.
Here are some of the top benefits PoolStar clients enjoy when switching to a salt water pool:
1. Gentle on Skin and Eyes
Say goodbye to red, irritated eyes and dry skin. Salt water pools have lower chlorine levels, making swimming more enjoyable for those with sensitive skin or allergies. Families with children often find this feature especially appealing.
2. Lower Maintenance Requirements
Salt water pools require fewer chemical adjustments than traditional pools. The system automatically generates the right amount of chlorine. At PoolStar, we offer expert advice on maintaining your salt water pool for peak performance. We also check the water chemistry weekly and adjust the levels as needed.
3. Softer, More Luxurious Water
Many swimmers describe salt water as feeling “silky” or “soft” compared to regular pool water.
4. Cost-Effective in the Long Run
While installing a salt water system has a higher upfront cost PoolStar offers affordable solutions and expert installations to help you maximize your investment.
5. Environmentally Friendly
With reduced reliance on harsh chemicals, salt water pools are better for the environment. Choosing an eco-conscious option like this aligns with PoolStar mission to provide sustainable pool solutions.
PoolStar checks and maintains the salt levels at all of our saltwater pools because too little salt can reduce chlorine production and too much salt will cause for the water to be partially replaced to bring the levels down and the system doesn’t work proficiently. If you are considering a conversion to a salt system; your upfront costs will be approximately $1500-$1700 for the conversion and up to $200-$300 in initial salt costs in order to bring the pool water to the correct level 3200PPM (the latter depends on the size of the pool). Note that once the correct level is obtained, PoolStar adds salt accordingly and will check the salt cell periodically to ensure it’s clean of calcium deposits. These salt cell cleanings are done for our customers at no cost. Salt cells generally have a lifespan of 3 to 4 years and come with a one year manufacturers warranty. PoolStar is proud to be servicing pools since 2006 in Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin and most of Clark County. PoolStar has experience working with Salt Cell pools.
