The correct pool water chemistry is very important for the maintenance and well being of your pool. The different levels in your water are constantly changing year round. Things like the weather to oils to dirt and landscaping around your pool all have affects on your pool water chemistry. Balancing the water at least weekly will enable for the correct levels to be achieved. The basic proper balance of pool water is achieved by having the below within the correct levels.
PH 7.2-7.8
Chlorine 1.0-3.0 PPM
Total alkalinity 80–120 PPM
Calcium hardness 180-220 PPM though some say 200-400 PPM
Cyanuric acid (CYA) also known was conditioner 30-80 PPM
Total dissolved solids (TDS) 500-5000 PPM
When some of the levels like Cyanuric acid and Total dissolved solids become too high it might be time to drain the pool and start a fresh. Other levels like the PH, alkalinity and chlorine can be balanced by using chemicals to adjust them.
